State Party Chair Maron Issues Statement on the Speakership Changes in the Delaware State House
New Castle - Delaware Democratic Party Chair Betsy Maron has released the following statement in response to the changes in leadership in the Delaware State House.
“First, I want to thank Representative Schwartzkopf for his decade of leadership as Delaware’s Speaker of the House, his lengthy service to Delaware, our personal friendship and years of partnership with the Delaware Democratic Party.
“At a time when legislative chambers in Washington and across the nation have grown increasingly contentious and divisive, Speaker Schwartzkopf has maintained the State House’s steady focus on the issues that matter most to Delawareans. This was no small task considering the legislation that has passed through the chamber in his tenure. Delaware Democrats would be hard pressed to achieve as much as we have without Speaker Schwartzkopf’s leadership.
“I was also so proud to see the speaker’s gavel presented to a woman for the first time in Delaware’s history, alongside an all female caucus leadership slate. Representative Valerie Longhurst has long been a staunch advocate of her district and the Delaware Democratic Party. I am confident that she will continue the legacy of stalwart Democratic leadership in the House as the chamber enters its next chapter.”
