Press ReleaseDelaware Democratic Party Chairman Erik Raser-Schramm issued the following statement following today's announcement from Rep. J.J. Johnson that he would not be seeking re-election:
From the negotiating table to the House Chamber, J.J. Johnson has long been one of Delaware’s greatest champions for fairness and equality.
A former UAW president and member of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, Rep. Johnson brought the fight for workers' rights and fair wages to the General Assembly after being elected in 2005. A member of Delaware’s Black Caucus, Rep. Johnson has been a tireless fighter for equal rights, working hard to address racial disparities in our criminal justice system and beyond. As Chair of the House Corrections Committee, he was one of the leading voices for reforming our prisons and juvenile justice system. A key member of the influential Joint Finance Committee, Rep. Johnson has played a key role in balancing our budgets and ensuring Delaware’s long-term fiscal health.
The Delaware Democratic Party congratulates Rep. Johnson on his pending retirement, and wishes him years of joy with his family – especially his wife, Ernestine, and his nine beloved grandchildren.
