Delaware Democratic Veterans Condemn President Trump’s Purge of Senior Military Leadership

The Delaware Democratic Veterans and Military Families Caucus (DVMFC) strongly condemns President Donald Trump's efforts to purge the United States military of its professional leadership in a blatant attempt to reshape the world’s most powerful fighting force into his personal militia. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force General Charles Q. Brown and Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Lisa Franchetti are highly qualified and effective leaders, proven in combat operations, and their removal signals the racist and sexist nature of the new administration.

As military members, veterans took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. That oath does not apply to any person or political party, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice prohibits imposing partisan politics on military actions. Delaware Democratic veterans remain true to that oath.

Former Fox News Weekend host and now Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is already grossly unqualified to hold the position he holds, and he has promised to take further actions to impose partisan politics on the military; he also moved to replace the Service Top Judge Advocate Generals (TJAG). The President’s intended nominee to become Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a retired three-star general, lacks all of the professional characteristics required by law establishing the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was chosen solely for his apparent personal devotion to Mr. Trump.

The Delaware Democratic Veterans and Military Families Caucus urges Senators Chris Coons and Lisa Blunt Rochester to strongly oppose the appointment of Lieutenant General Caine as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and to mobilize enough opposition in the Senate to prevent his confirmation.
