Sussex Democrats Kickoff Spring and
the ’08 Election
Season Senator Biden Rallies the Sussex
Crowd With an Inspiring Speech
GEORGETOWN — Close to 200
people mixed, mingled and danced at the Sussex
County Democrats' annual Spring Dinner -- a
night to build camaraderie, excitement and the
war chest. Senator Joe Biden
energized those gathered, reminiscing about how
the Sussex Democrats gave him such a huge push
in his first run for Senate back in 1972,
explaining the need to responsibly end the war
in Iraq and expressing his hope that a
Democratic president will lead this country to
prominence in the world again.
"We need to solve Iraq to
give us flexibility on domestic issues," said
Sen. Biden. John McCain is not the
answer, he later said. "He is dead wrong on
this war." Sussex County Democratic
Chairman Tom Chapman echoed the sentiment of
the day. "It's a good year to be a
Democrat," said Chapman. "Sussex County needs
to rally behind Joe in his seventh run for the
Senate to continue building on our Democratic
majority in Congress and elect a Democratic
president to solve the serious challenges
facing this country."
The night also took time
to thank Sussex Democrats for their dedication
to the party. Former County Register of
Wills Howard Clendaniel was recognized for five
decades of service. Pat and Dudley Ewing were
awarded with Sussex Democratic Couple of the
year for their dedication to volunteerism and
coordinating very successful fundraising
activities for our local
party. ###
