John McCain Promises Delaware Families a Third Bush Term

NEWCASTLE — Hours after clinching his Party’s nomination, the one-time “maverick” completed his transformation into a full-fledged Bush Republican by heading to the White House this afternoon to receive President Bush’s formal endorsement.

In his desperation to cozy up to the right wing of the Republican Party, John McCain has endorsed many of President Bush’s failed policies and promises to carry out the same disastrous approach on everything from health care to the economy to Iraq to ethics.

“By rushing to President Bush’s side, McCain is showing Delaware’s working families that a vote for John McCain is a vote for a third Bush term,” said Executive Director of the Delaware Democratic Party Molly Jurusik.  “The closer voters look at the real McCain record, the more they will realize he cannot be trusted to deliver the change America wants."

On the health care, John McCain has no plan for the uninsured. According to the Wall Street Journal, McCain’s plan does not focus on “reducing the ranks of the uninsured,” of which there are about 47 million, or one in seven Americans. [Wall Street Journal, 10/11/07]  McCain opposed reauthorizing SCHIP, which would have provided insurance for millions of uninsured children.  [Senate Vote #307, 8/2/07]

When it comes to economics, McCain thinks the economy is strong. He refuses to say whether he supports President Bush’s threat to veto a Democratic bill to help struggling homeowners fighting to avoid foreclosure. This comes despite widespread economic anxieties and potential foreclosure threats facing working families.  McCain instead would rather make President Bush’s tax cuts for the rich permanent… in 2010.

McCain has no problems with keeping troops in Iraq for the next 100 years. He interrupted a voter during a town hall meeting in New Hampshire, telling him we could spend "maybe a hundred" years in Iraq and "that would be fine with me." And after building his reputation on ethics and lobbying reform, he’s turned his back on his dearest principals.  Today’s endorsement should make it clear to American voters that McCain is a Bush Republican and bad for working families.
