With the Delaware Biotechnology Institute as a backdrop, Sen. Tom Carper and Lt. Governor Carney joined with leaders in state government, science and education to help announce the establishment of a new research center in Delaware on Tuesday, October 10, 2006.

Housed at the University of Delaware, the Center for Critical Zone Research will help to improve Delaware’s environment by studying issues such as air quality, the condition of water supplies, and possible environmental factors in disease.

As chair of the Delaware Science and Technology Council, the Lt. Governor applauded the new center and its potential to make a positive impact on the lives of Delawareans.

U.S. Sen. Thomas R. Carper (D-Del.) said the new center is “critically important” to ensure that the “our children can grow up in the kind of world we would want our children to grow up in,” a world that is environmentally friendly and affords strong job opportunities.
