Lt. Governor Carney Honors Teacher of the Year

Lt. Governor John Carney helped to acknowledge a number of Delaware’s finest educators on Tuesday, October 24th in Dover. At the annual “Teacher of the Year” program, the Lt. Governor saluted the hard work and extraordinary service of teachers from across the state.
As part of the recognition program, each school district in Delaware was represented by an exemplary teacher, with one teacher being recognized as Delaware’s “Teacher of the Year”.
This year’s highest honors were extended to Caridad Alonso, a teacher at William C. Lewis Dual Language Elementary School in Wilmington. Alonso will go on to represent Delaware at the national teacher of the year awards and will also receive grants for use in her classroom.
Lt. Governor Carney also oversees Models of Excellence in Education, a program that he created to help identify and share best practices in Delaware’s schools.
